The arousal of Kundalini forms the basis of all yoga disciplines and every genuine spiritual experience may be considered a flowering of the psychic energy. The purpose of the tantric practise of Kundalini-yoga is to awaken this great reservoir of energy. It is a dynamic, powerful technology, precisely and consciously combining breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.
The movement of Kundalini energy through the body is like waves, flames, pulsations or an uncoiling. Although some heat (energy movement) in the tailbone area may be felt before the release, the movement is so subtle that most people are not aware it. Depending on a person’s development and readiness, a number of layers or waves are individually released during a lifetime. More sensitive people feel the energy travel up the spine as it pushes and pulls and unties the blockages of different energies, resulting in transformation. As the energy encounters a blocked area it can cause some pressure or pain.
The Swiss eminent psychologist and psychiatrist C.G. Jung, claimed that while practicing Kundalini-yoga, a balance between the four functions: thinking, feeling, sensing and intuiting is achieved within the psyche.
Practicing Kundalini can assist a person out of a narrow, individualistic lifestyle and free them from impurities. Once cleansed by the Kundalini and spiritual energies one will have less desire to make life complicated and will experience the urge for living life in a basic way. Being more satisfied with life and relying less on the material and social structures around us one will be more interested in the power of love and giving instead of taking.
During the Kundalini process toward enlightment, exceptional paranormal gifts are experienced and the great spiritual awareness can truly be considered genius or heavenly. The amount of Kundalini flowing and useable at the time will determine the level of the awareness.
In the past it was common for enlightened people to retreat from their busy lives and ignore their past and everything involved. Now in the Aquarian Age with the present energies, enlightened people are involved in government, education, healing, spiritual areas and other progress-orientated fields, attempting to guide the human race to a greater spiritual and cosmic awareness of all life, hoping to make the world a better place to live in.
As Yogi Bhajan said, ‘In Kundalini yoga the most important thing is your experience. It goes right to your heart. No words can replace your experience. Your mind may accept the words or it may not, but your consciousness will not accept just words.’
