Uttarabodhi Mudra

24 cm high

Tantric ritual gestures such as finger positions (Mudras) are used as a tool for inner awareness, creating a reaction in the mind of the skilled practiser, evoking divine powers in order to intensify concentration. They are usually used while seated in the Padmasana, Sukhasana or Vajrasana pose, to stimulate different parts of the body involved with breathing and to affect the flow of prana in the body.

Mudras such as Vajroli, Asvani, Sahajoli, Kehechari, and Mahamudra are Shakti-chalanas (energy movers) and are combined with postures, breathing techniques and mantras to awaken zones of consciousness and activate the subtle energy of Kundalini.

A brain research document published in the National Academy of Sciences in November 2009, demonstrated that hand gestures stimulate the same regions of the brain as language.
